To Sleep in a Sea of Stars (To Sleep) is pretty epic in all senses of the word. The years of research, writing, re-writing and editing that went into it is incredible. Please don’t be put off by the size of this book you’ll be robbing yourself of a brilliant book and adventure. I know it can seem daunting but risk it. If you follow me on Instagram you know I couldn't read To Sleep fast enough as the drama comes thick and fast in a thoroughly binge-worthy way.
Christopher makes sure you feel the vastness of space, the danger of each encounter and the deep unknown. Set approximately 250-years in the future, To Sleep features interstellar travel to planets and space stations, space battles, aliens and sentient life but the subtle and occasional humour and banter helps you power through this binge-worthy book. It also adds a whole new level of character development and it also makes characters seem more real; they were reacting exactly how you would expect someone to react to such crazy and dire circumstances. This story is so vast, there is so much that happens from the first time we meet Kira to the stunning conclusion.
Kira Navárez has always been fascinated by the outer worlds specifically, life on other planets. She's spent her life travelling to the edges of the known universe to categorize and learn from the microbes and other creatures. Let’s be honest who isn’t slightly jealous like sign me up give me enough books see ya later. Kira is about to finish her work on an uncolonized planet when one misstep changes her life entirely. She stumbles upon an ancient alien relic and joy turns into terror as the alien relic turns out to be a little more than she bargained for.
This book kept me guessing and that was part of the
delight of reading this book. Additionally, the world-building can easily sweep
you off your feet and carry you through this book effortlessly. It's a
beautifully written book, overflowing with poignant moments and even at 800 odd
pages I still wanted more. I loved delving into this world and cannot wait for
the next book (No pressure). This book is going to be perfect as the nights
draw in earlier and it gets colder.
