This Lie Will Kill You by Chelsea Pitcher

Happy Spooky Season Readers,

This Lie Will Kill You was a quick, enjoyable read and is the first book I have read by Chelsea. Twelve months ago, there was a party, and someone died. The five survivors are invited to a mysterious house with the pretence of winning a $50k university scholarship. Of course, some things are too good to be true… and that’s our story dear Reader.

I was effortlessly pulled into Chelsea’s book and the murder mystery evening. I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen and second guessed everything. There's a lot going on in this book, from character connections to the truth of what happened a year ago on that fateful night.

The writing was one of my favourite parts of the book it was creepy and suspenseful and although it might not be as horror filled and gory as other books, I’ve read it was still a great spooky season read. The characters were written beautifully, and Chelsea could have easily over complicated or muddled up the changes in point of view. I think what helps Chelsea is that her characters were mature and had solid back stories that made them believable.

The bulk of the story focuses on just the one night and Chelsea does a great job of fleshing out her characters. Throughout the book we're taken into the mind of each of the five guests by changes in points of view and through this we learn more about what happened on the night in question.  I appreciated jumping into each of their perspective to see how they were feeling about the events that occurred the previous year and seeing the events at the revenge party unfold through their eyes. I adored each persons’ point of view and you really do get an idea of who they are, their values, and their growth.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to reading more of Chelsea’s books.
