The Queen of Poison by Robert Thorogood (The Marlow Murder Club #3) Gifted

Thank you, HQ stories, for sending me a physical copy of The Queen of Poison by Robert Thorogood for free in exchange for an honest review. 

Why change the habit of my blog lets jump in at book three. This is the second book in this series that I have read but the first I have reviewed on my blog. Don’t worry dear reader I think this book could be read as a standalone book.

I really enjoyed that the three main characters, Judith, Suzie, and Becks have such contrasting personalities, but they work well together and complement each other wonderfully. It adds a personal and realistic layer to the story, and it was something I enjoyed. I thoroughly enjoyed their sarcasm and found myself sniggering out loud at points. Judith, Suzie, and Becks are working for the Police as civilian detectives as a local Mayor has been poisoned at a committee meeting.

In this book Suzie takes centre stage unlike the first two books where we focused more on Judith’s point of view. I enjoyed getting to learn more about Suzie and her ideas. I’m not forgetting Becks as she faces her own difficult challenges in this book in the form of her mother-in-law.

The writing flows nicely and it keeps you guessing as the story is full of red herrings. Unfortunately, this isn’t a nice simple ride as not all clues fit where they should, and our three sleuths learn this as they try to solve the crime. There is no shortage of suspects when it comes to trying to work out who could have murdered the local mayor. I will admit I didn't guess who.
