Hello Readers,
Don't Let the Forest In is almost impossible to explain it’s the kind of story that simply needs to be experienced.
Don't Let the Forest In is almost impossible to explain it’s the kind of story that simply needs to be experienced.
From start to finish, I was utterly consumed, devouring the book
in one sitting. The premise is brilliantly creative: monstrous drawings come to
life, hunting down their creator and loved ones. It’s a chilling concept that
keeps you on the edge of your seat, always wondering what comes next.
The gothic school setting is perfect, with atmospheric descriptions that make the haunted forest and the eerie school dynamics come alive. The characters from popular kids, bullies, queer students, and wallflowers are all portrayed realistically, and the complexity of their interactions adds emotional depth to the story. You can't help but root for Andrew as he navigates this strange, unsettling world.
Andrew and Thomas are trapped in a codependent relationship at a boarding school where something is clearly amiss. The tension between them is electrifying, almost suffocating, with a raw intimacy that had me squirming in my seat and screaming at the pages. As their bond deepens, the line between nightmare and reality begins to blur, leaving you questioning the very nature of what is real. Are the monsters they fear truly out there, or is their perception of the world fracturing? With each reveal, the emotional turmoil and the chilling uncertainty pull you deeper into their world.
This book is an emotional rollercoaster. It left me tangled in a web of confusion, relief, sadness, and inexplicable joy. The atmosphere is drenched in a creeping, unsettling dread that is both exhilarating and terrifying. It’s a feeling that lingers long after you finish the book, like you're constantly looking over your shoulder for something you can’t see but know is there.
For lack of better wording the story begins like a fever dream, chaotic, disorienting, and full of uncertainty. Reality and fantasy blur, and you can feel something terrible looming, even though you’re unsure of what it is. The mystery of the forest and the events from the previous year draw you in, offering endless theories to consider. And when the truth finally unfolds, it’s nothing short of spectacular.
The writing brilliantly captures this feeling of unease, making you feel like you’re walking through a dark, moss-covered forest, constantly aware of an unseen threat. The pace builds perfectly, keeping you on edge and desperate to uncover the truth yet the closer you get to the answers, the more you realize how little you truly know. It’s a haunting, immersive experience that stays with you long after the last page.
