Psyche and Eros by Luna McNamara Review

Hello Readers,

Luna’s reimagining of the myth of Psyche and Eros is a wonderfully fresh take on a classic story, diving into love, duty, and personal growth in a way that feels both timeless and modern. While the story takes some creative liberties with the characters and plot, these changes bring a new depth to the tale, making it feel exciting and new without losing its mythological charm.

What really stood out to me was the way Luna reimagines Psyche. Instead of just being a dutiful princess, she’s a young woman with dreams of becoming a hero and staying chaste, which creates an interesting clash with societal expectations. This made her character feel much more relatable and complex. Eros, too, gets a more thoughtful and humanized arc, as he struggles with his gift of desire and the guilt he feels over the destructive side of love. It was refreshing to see the gods in such a vulnerable light.

The alternating POV chapters were a highlight, allowing us to see the emotional growth of both Psyche and Eros from their own perspectives. It added a lot of depth to their relationship and kept me invested in their journey. I also loved how Luna wove other Greek myths into the story, creating a rich, interconnected world that made the story feel even more alive.

At its heart, this is a beautiful story of two characters learning what love really means. The tension between them builds so naturally, making it hard to put the book down. Luna’s retelling is a perfect mix of old and new, with a heartfelt narrative that will stay with you long after you finish.
