Synopsis: Expelled from her prestigious boarding school following a violent incident, eighteen-year-old Lacrimosa Arriscane returns home in disgrace to discover her family on the point of financial ruin. Desperate to save them, she accepts a marriage of convenience… to Therion, the chthonic god worshipped by Lark’s isolated coastal hometown.
But when her betrothal goes horribly wrong, Lark begins to vanish from the mortal realm. Her only hope is to seek help from Alastair Felimath: the brilliant, arrogant boy who was her first heartbreak, and his alluring older sister, Camille. As the trio delve into the folklore of gods, Lark falls under the spell of the Felimath siblings.
Ensnared by a fervent romance, they perform a bacchanalia with hopes the hedonistic ritual will repair the connection between Lark and her bridegroom. Instead, they draw the ire of something much darker, which seeks to destroy Therion and Lark as well.
Miniature Review
Lyndall Clipstone’s lyrical writing brilliantly brings to life the wild coastal setting—imagine the sharp scent of sea spray, the salty breeze on your skin, and mist curling mysteriously around ancient stones. The atmosphere hums with tension and dark secrets, creating a backdrop as vivid and haunting as the unforgettable characters who inhabit it.
At the center of this story is Lacrimosa, a young woman returned home under difficult and desperate circumstances, facing family turmoil and the shadows of her past. Her journey—woven with themes of sacrifice, identity, and love is tender, intense, and utterly immersive. The relationships she navigates are complex and beautifully nuanced, blending heartbreak, healing, and fierce devotion in ways that grabbed my heart from the very start.
Overall, Tenderly, I Am Devoured is a gorgeously written, darkly enchanting gothic fairy tale that masterfully blends horror, romance, and folklore with exquisite craft. It’s a richly immersive, unforgettable read that will haunt you, captivate you, and stay with you long after the last word.
