Hello Readers,
Slight change in the usual programming, but I’m way too
excited not to share that the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 kicks off tomorrow!
Fingers crossed my allergy disorder behaves, because I’ll be at the Stadium of
Light for the opening game, where England takes on the USA.
As a long-time fan of women’s rugby and the England
women’s rugby team, I’m thrilled to see so much excitement around the sport
right now. With the World Cup being hosted here in the UK this year, I’m in the
perfect time zone for all the matches. I plan to stream as many games online as
I can, since my allergy disorder might not approve of too many stadium visits.
I’m a little scared I might jinx it, but The Red Roses
have been unstoppable lately. They’re heading into this tournament on an
incredible 27-game win streak.
Women’s rugby has come such a long way in the last
decade. Seeing all the fan engagement on social media during the build up to
World Cup has filled me with delight. It’s a reminder of how far the sport has
progressed from watching games on spotty Facebook Live streams that looked like
they were filmed through a potato to now enjoying high-quality coverage and
passionate fans on social media.
Side note I would like to add how fantastic it was to
witness the camaraderie between The Lionesses and The Red Roses during the Women’s
Euros this year. On another note, I’m also losing my mind over the
collaboration between The Red Roses and Barbie. Younger me would have
completely lost it, and older me is now eyeing up how to get a Barbie-pink
rugby ball to add to my collection.
Here’s to The Red Roses continuing their streak and
inspiring a new generation of players.
