Hello Readers,
After absolutely adoring Let’s Split Up, I couldn’t wait to dive into the sequel and of course, I had to grab the “adorable” (Blood splats aren't cute apparently) sprayed-edge edition from The Works to match my set. Released on October 9th, Be Right Back is everything I wanted and more: bigger, bloodier, and even better than the first.
Set a year after the events of Let’s Split Up, we reunite with Cam, Jonesy, Amber, and Buffy back in Sanera as they’re drawn once again into a chilling mystery. What begins as a Halloween festival celebrating the town’s past soon spirals into a terrifying new legend, complete with masked killers, eerie mansions, and plenty of secrets. It’s a love letter to classic horror think Scooby-Doo meets Scream with clever pop culture references, meta humour, and that found-family warmth at its core.
I absolutely loved all the horror and slasher nods sprinkled throughout. As a horror fan, I guessed the killer fairly early, but it didn’t dampen my enjoyment one bit if anything, it made the ride even more fun. My one spoiler The Scooby-Doo-esque energy, the throwback feels, and the inclusion of the Seance Sisters a perfect homage to the Hex Girls (A perfect nod if I do so myself) gave me all the nostalgic vibes.
Buffy’s chapters added emotional depth, and seeing how each character has grown since book one made me care for them even more. I tore through this in two sittings it’s fast-paced, spooky, and just pure fun. Bill Wood has managed to craft a sequel that feels both familiar and fresh, balancing scares, heart, and humour flawlessly.
Was the ending predictable? Maybe. Did I love every second anyway? Absolutely. Now, about that third book… please, Bill be right back with more. (What’s scarier is that I think I’m witty)
