I Know What You Did Last Summer (2021) Review

Hello Readers,

Okay, I’ll put my hands up I’m four years late to the party, but I finally watched I Know What You Did Last Summer on Amazon Prime Video. As someone who loved the 1997 slasher classic, I was curious (and a bit sceptical) about how the cult film would translate into a TV series. To my surprise, it’s not bad in fact, it’s kind of addictive and I found myself binge watching.

Amazon’s reimagining of the 90s hit updates the story for the social media generation. Gone are the mysterious letters; now, the teens are haunted by texts, webcam footage, and viral videos. It’s a modern take that blends Gossip Girl-style teen drama with a healthy dose of blood, secrets, and suspense.

The series follows twin sisters Lennon and Allison, played brilliantly by Madison Iseman, along with a group of friends whose summer mistake spirals into a nightmare of guilt and murder. While the pacing sometimes dips into melodrama, there’s enough mystery and psychological tension to keep things engaging. Think less slasher flick and more dark murder-mystery with teen chaos.

Sure, some dialogue feels cringey and the show leans heavily into its teen drama roots, but the twists, turns, and red herrings kept me guessing. I especially liked the creative kills and the eerie coastal setting it gives the show an unsettling atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and new.

Overall, I Know What You Did Last Summer (2021) is a guilty pleasure: part horror, part soap opera, and surprisingly fun. If you missed it like I did, it’s worth adding to your Amazon Prime Video watchlist. Just don’t expect a fisherman with a hook this one’s got a few new tricks up its sleeve.

Stay Spooky
