Until Death Do Us Part by Mark Boutros (Gifted/AD)

Hello Readers,

Huge thanks to Mark for letting me be part of the process and for trusting me to read the book when it was only a sapling of an idea. To anyone reading the acknowledgements: I have an alibi.

Until Death Do Us Part is a tense domestic thriller that blends dark humour, moral ambiguity, and relationship drama into a unputdownable read. But what if I added that this tale is told entirely from the culprits’ perspective, this choice pulls readers deep into a toxic marriage spiralling toward catastrophe.

Mia and Rami’s marriage is already dead in Mia’s eyes. On the way to a friend’s birthday party, she finally asks for a divorce, setting off a chain of events neither of them can undo. What follows is a desperate attempt to avoid the consequences, forcing the couple into a toxic alliance. From that moment on, our story becomes more than a domestic thriller it develops into an exploration of guilt, self-preservation, and whether a shared secret can repair a broken marriage.

Mia is defined by cold rationality. She remains emotionally detached throughout, approaching situations with a calculating, pragmatic mindset that often makes her unlikable. While Rami, on the other hand, is naïve, fact-driven, and painfully devoted.

The contrast between Mia’s emotional detachment and Rami’s desperation creates genuine tension that drives the narrative forward, sharpening the psychological conflict at the heart of the story. I felt like I was a fly on the wall watching real people making catastrophic choices, with Rami clinging to the fantasy that the crisis might somehow save their marriage.

This might say more about me than I’d like, but I really enjoyed how Mark walks a razor-thin tonal line, using dark humour throughout the story without ever trivialising the crime. The humour never weakens the stakes; instead, it heightens the discomfort, making readers laugh while questioning what they would do in the same situation.

The pacing in the second half when the consequences accelerate and the couple’s toxic dynamic intensifies. Each decision pushes Mia and Rami further into moral grey territory, forcing readers to reassess who if anyone actually deserves sympathy.

An interesting supporting cast adds unpredictability, and while the story occasionally ventures into unexpected territory, the suspense keeps the narrative grounded. The ending avoids predictable tropes and instead delivers a conclusion that feels surprising and earned.

Until Death Do Us Part by Mark Boutros is the kind of book that makes you laugh, wince, and question what you would do in an impossible situation.
