Hello Readers,
I saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice yesterday and I just had to
share my thoughts. This review is going to be spoiler free. I am using a poster
image I have found through google I do not own any rights and am using the
image for review purposes (Fair use under the copyright act sections 29
and 30 under use for a review).
I don’t know if it was just nostalgia but for me this sequel
just hit the spot perfectly. I think this film compliments the first film and maintains
the bar raised by its predecessor. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is full of
plots and one huge upside to all this storytelling is that we as the audience
get to experience some truly unhinged subplots that still fit into the story.
The film is chaotic at moments, and I am at peace with
that, because logic has never been what Beetlejuice was about. For me
Beetlejuice’s main appeal is that it is so jam-packed with great well-designed
characters, great plots and visuals I just adore.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is packed full of knock-out
punchlines. The film is also filled with Tim Burton’s visual gags that we know,
and love. I appreciate how he treads the fine line between being hilarious and pushing
the boundaries of how eccentric and macabre a film can be. One slight possible
spoiler I love how Tim still used practical effects such as puppets,
prosthetics and goo. It makes the jokes both funnier and more disgusting. It
gave a nostalgic nod to the original film.
It was such a joy going back to the oddly shaped
corridors and the administrative madness of Netherworld that we got to seen in
the first film. In the sequel without giving away too many spoilers we get to explore
more areas of this underworld.
I am thankful for this follow up of a
cherished childhood film. I know very few sequels manage to live up to the
expectation of the original. For me personally I loved this sequel as it remains faithful
to the character and spirit of the original film. I would honestly go to the
cinema and watch it again tonight even thought I watched it yesterday.
One last thing… Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
