It’s been over a month since I watched The Vampire Lestat and the songs are still living in my head rent-free. I thought, what better way to bridge my current obsession with my lifelong one than to match books to my favourite songs? Spoiler warning!
Track 01: "Your Biggest Fan" × A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson
"He made me a creature of the night, but he never let me forget that I was his creation first."
When Lestat takes the mic for "Your Biggest Fan," his rock-star bravado hides centuries of trauma at the hands of Magnus the vampire who abducted, transformed and obsessively controlled him. The song explores the dark line between adoration and ownership, making it a perfect match for A Dowry of Blood.
S.T. Gibson's gothic, lyrical novel follows Constanta, Dracula's first bride, as she becomes trapped in a relationship built on love, control and isolation. Like Lestat, Constanta must confront the damage caused by a creator who sees their "creation" as something to possess.

Kiran Millwood Hargrave’s feminist gothic novel follows sisters Lil and Kizzy as they are torn from their home and drawn into the world of Dracula. Like Claudia, they are young lives caught in the orbit of powerful vampires, forced to confront a world where their agency and humanity are constantly threatened.
Both stories explore innocence lost, transformation against your will, fierce bonds and the devastating consequences of being claimed by monsters. If you're looking for gothic beauty wrapped around heart breaking vampire tragedy, this pairing delivers.

Emilia Hart’s Weyward makes a fascinating literary companion. Spanning three generations of women, the novel explores family secrets, inherited trauma, hidden power and transformation as its characters struggle to break free from cycles of control.
Both stories ask what we inherit from those who came before us and whether transformation can become a way to survive. With its dark, atmospheric blend of blood, family, power and gothic transformation, Weyward is a perfect match for this haunting track.

That makes T.J. Klune’s Under the Whispering Door a beautiful companion. The novel explores grief, mortality and the difficult process of learning to let go, while also offering a tender queer romance between two men learning to embrace vulnerability.
Both stories explore loneliness, devastating love and the fear of losing the people who matter most. But beneath the sadness is the same message: feeling deeply may hurt, but it also proves that you truly loved.
If you’re looking for a pairing that captures the album’s most vulnerable, melancholic and emotionally raw side, this is it.

Following goth philosophy student Alice as she uses an ancient ritual to rid herself of her violent anger only to unleash something far more unhinged the novel is packed with rage, supernatural chaos, sharp humour and morally grey characters.
Like Lestat, Alice isn't interested in being the perfect hero. Both are messy, dramatic, petty and unapologetically themselves, with their darker impulses taking centre stage. If you want a book to match the album’s loudest, sassiest and most chaotic energy, The Society for Soulless Girls is a perfect fit.
