One Last Scare by Bill Wood Review

Hello Readers,
I'm sad to say goodbye to the Sanera Four, but I'm incredibly grateful for the ride. Without spoilers, Bill, I need a word…

If you’re looking for a brilliant YA horror mystery to add to your TBR, One Last Scare needs to be on your list. The book published on 8 October 2026, so this review will be spoiler-free. This is the final book in the Let’s Split Up trilogy, and what a phenomenal way to end things.

The Sanera Four are back, and I’ve absolutely loved spending more time with them. Found family is one of my all-time favourite tropes, and watching these characters grow both individually and together throughout the series has been such a joy. I really wasn’t ready to say goodbye, but if this is the end of their story, it's the perfect send-off.

This time, the gang ends up on an isolated island where a spooky theme park is reopening, only for things to take a much darker turn. Think Scooby-Doo: Spooky Island meets Scream, complete with a creepy mascot, a growing body count, and a whole lot of hidden secrets. What could possibly go wrong?

This book was an absolute rollercoaster and not just because of the theme park setting. The pacing is fantastic, and I genuinely struggled to put it down. Every time I thought I had the plot figured out, another twist came along to keep me guessing. I did work out a small piece of the mystery early on, but that didn't take away from the fun of watching it all unfold. The slasher elements felt a bit darker than in the previous books, and the isolated setting adds so much extra tension. With no phones and no escape, I was hooked from beginning to end.

I also loved seeing the characters' relationships continue to develop, and a few moments genuinely caught me off guard emotionally. I wasn't expecting to get quite so attached to this final mystery, but it definitely pulled at my heartstrings.

Overall, One Last Scare is a thrilling, twisty, and bittersweet conclusion to a trilogy I've loved from the start. If you enjoy slasher mysteries, creepy theme parks, found family, and a good old-fashioned whodunnit, you need to read this series.

One last thing to add I cant wait to get my hands on Nightslayer next year.
Stay Spooky
