Hello Readers,
What happens when you mix a chilling Alaskan setting, a
gruesome murder mystery, and vampires? You get The Gathering by C. J. Tudor, a
gripping supernatural thriller that completely took me by surprise.

Set in the tiny, isolated town of Deadhart, Alaska, the
story kicks off when a teenage boy is found dead in an old hunting cabin his
throat ripped out and his blood completely drained. The locals immediately
point the finger at the Colony, a group of vampyrs living in an abandoned
mining settlement deep in the woods. With an eerily similar murder happening
twenty-five years prior, tensions are reaching a boiling point, and the
townspeople want blood. But are the vampyrs really to blame?
Enter Detective Barbara Atkins, a specialist in vampyr
killings who's brought in to decide whether the evidence warrants a full-scale
cull of the Colony. Determined to find the actual truth, she teams up with
former sheriff Jenson Tucker, a guy who knows Deadhart and its dark history
better than anyone. As new secrets surface and another body turns up, Barbara
has to figure out who—or what—is behind the killings before everything spirals
completely out of control.
I was hooked right from chapter one and honestly
struggled to put this down. In fact, it gave me a serious book hangover! I
found myself still turning pages at 3:00am because I just had to know how it
all ended. Tudor delivers a fast-paced, twist-filled murder mystery stacked
with secrets, suspicion, and mounting tension. Right when I thought I had it
all figured out, another revelation completely flipped my theories upside down.
My absolute favourite part of the book was the
atmosphere. The freezing Alaskan wilderness, long winter nights, and
claustrophobic small-town vibe create an incredible, eerie backdrop. I also
loved Detective Barbara Atkins herself she's smart, grounded, and empathetic,
approaching a chaotic investigation with an open mind despite facing tons of
hostility and prejudice.
I’m usually not the biggest fan of vampire stories, but
this one completely won me over. Tudor brings a fresh, modern spin to vampire
fiction by blending supernatural horror with police procedural and
psychological thriller elements. Underneath the mystery, there's also a thought-provoking
look at fear, prejudice, and the age-old question of who the real monsters
actually are.
If you are hunting for an atmospheric horror thriller
with a compelling mystery, unforgettable characters, and plenty of twists, The
Gathering is one you won't want to miss this spooky season.
Stay Spooky
