Synopsis: Hannah has been running from her demons ever since she emerged from a harrowing wilderness trip without her fiancé. No one knows exactly what happened the day Ben died, and Hannah would like to keep it that way... even if his ghost still haunts her with vivid waking nightmares that are ruining her life. So when her friend group gets an exclusive invitation to a restorative spiritual retreat in Joshua Tree, Hannah reluctantly agrees in search of a fresh start.
Despite her scepticism of the strange Guru Pax and his belief in the supernatural world, Hannah soon finds healing through all the yoga, sound baths, and hot springs offered at the tech-free haven. But this peaceful journey of self-discovery quickly descends into a violent fight for self-preservation when a mysterious killer starts picking off retreat attendees in increasingly gruesome ways. As the body count rises and Hannah’s sanity frays, she’ll have to confront her dark past and uncover the true nature of a ruthless monster hellbent on killing her vibe for good.
Miniature Review
I absolutely loved Curse of the Reaper, so when I spotted Breathe In, Bleed Out on NetGalley, I hit request immediately. As a huge fan of slasher books and horror thrillers, this one was a real treat from start to finish.
From page one, the story dives straight into action and immediately builds suspense. The pacing is sharp and consistent, each chapter pulling me deeper into a world full of tension, twists, and bloody surprises. The wellness retreat is the perfect eerie backdrop that’s amplified by brutal kills, haunting secrets, and characters whose motives are never certain.
What really makes Breathe In, Bleed Out stand out is how it both respects the slasher genre rules. There are clever misdirection’s, gruesome murders, and just the right amount of terrifying detail. The kills were chilling and the subtle thematic messages woven throughout gave the story an extra punch.
It’s dark, fast paced, and cinematic. I could easily picture every scene, and I would love a horror movie adaptation. For fans of slashers, thrillers, and wellness retreat horror stories, this is an absolute must read for slasher fans.
