The Incredibles: Suddenly Super by Jen Calonita (Gifted)

Hello Readers,

Thank you, NetGalley for giving access to an eBook copy Twisted Tales: The Incredibles: Suddenly Super for free in exchange for an honest review. The eBook I received from NetGalley didn’t have a cover image, so I am using a cover image I have found through google (Fair use under the copyright act sections 29 and 30 under use for a review). Spoiler free review.

I adore the twisted tale series and have reviewed four already on my blog. I have read a couple of Jen’s twisted tales before, so I knew what to expect with the writing style. I really hope that Disney makes a “What if?” Series based on the twisted tale books like they have done a “What if…?” Series for marvel. I was excited for two reasons dear Reader new Incredibles content but I’m pretty sure this is the first time the twisted series has jumped into the Pixar-verse, and I am excited to see what this could potentially mean. Could we possible see a Brave twisted tale or even an Up twisted tale in the future. What is the what if? in this story well dear Reader… What if Violet became an agent of Syndrome?

I am a huge fan of The Incredibles I remember seeing it in the cinema back in 2004 and I also pushed children out the way to watch The Incredibles Two when it came out in 2018. Super geeky brag but I also had The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer on ps2, the video game was technically an alternative sequel to the animated film. I was so happy when I saw that I has been approved for this book on NetGalley and I couldn’t wait to read it.

I read this book in one sitting it was everything I could have wanted from a twisted tale. This twisted tale looks at what could have had if Violet and Dash didn’t sneakily follow their mum to Syndrome’s Island. As much as I like Dash, I am glad the book focused on Violet as it taps into the emotions that come with being teenager girl but add on top of that you’re a superhero it’s a lot. I love Violet as a character but seeing her angst about wanting to be a normal girl broke my heart a little. Syndrome can go sit on a cactus as he manipulates Violet’s insecurities in his villainous favour. With help from some friends Violet eventually realises she can trust herself and her own judgement and she embarks on a mission to expose the truth behind Mr Incredible’s number one fan. Without spoilers there are some character easter eggs which I enjoyed.
